of the Carolinas
Life Connections of the Carolinas is a non-profit organization aimed at Keeping Kids out of Jail and Keeping Families Connected. Our Vision is to connect all people, no matter their past or current situation, to the best possible resources to “Be the Best People, Families, and Citizens they can be”.
Life Connections of the Carolinas’ mission is to create the conditions for all individuals, families, and communities to strengthen themselves.
The conditions we create start with helping the client discover a shifted perception of their environment. We teach our clients the skills to self-evaluate, manage stress, and connect with other individuals.
We create these conditions by mentoring, supporting, and advocating for our clients. We are family based with a “no eject, no reject” policy. We provide programs in both English and Spanish to maximize communication amongst our clients.
Life Connections of the Carolinas practices Perceptual Control Theory, a scientifically based theory on human behavior and brain science. We believe the answer is within each individual.

Life Connections of the Carolinas, Inc., a leader in life skills programming and coaching in the Carolinas, has developed -D-A-S-H- Mentoring. This program provides youth and their families with an exceptional natural support mentoring experience. Our approach is based on a “youth initiated mentoring” model. Through helping the young person take an inventory of the supportive adults already in their life, the youth builds social capital and learns one of the most valuable life skills of all… how to see out natural supports and positive guidance with their own extended networks.
What to expect while enrolled in -D-A-S-H- Mentoring?
Youth will work with a Mentor Coach to identify a self-selected Mentor and develop a formalized one-year agreement, providing structure and accountability.
Youth will identify principles by which they want to live, set individualized goals, self-evaluate and work towards becoming the person they really want to be.
The Mentor will receive ongoing training and support from a Mentor Coach, skilled in how to help youth set goals and overcome obstacles, in order to build their own skills as a natural support and advisor.

What is -D-A-S-H- Re-Entry?
In 1998 -D-A-S-H- Re-Entry was created by Glenn Smith, founder of Life Connections of the Carolinas, Inc. and implemented in Mecklenburg County Jail, supported by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. The original life skills curriculums were created to provide research-based instruction to improve recidivism and personal development of individuals who are or were incarcerated individuals. The development of Life Connection’s –D-A-S-H- Re-Entry journey has involved psychologists, instructional specialists, teachers, administrators, university professors, researchers – all working together – to build an incredibly comprehensive solution to improve the lives of individuals. The curriculums used in –D-A-S-H- Re-Entry include a course for incarcerated men, women and juveniles.
All of the -D-A-S-H- Re-Entry Life Skills Courses are designed for those individuals who are committed to looking closely at how they have been living their lives, and are now ready to take an even closer look at how they want to live their lives in the future. The -D-A-S-H- Re-Entry courses fit together like a jigsaw puzzle to help individuals make a bigger difference in the lives.
-D-A-S-H- Re-Entry is the longest running and largest provider of life skills instruction in the Mecklenburg County Jails. We offer over 15 different life skill courses. Some of which are: Creating Your Be-Print, Parenting, Transformational Life Skills, Strengthening Health-Wealth-Relationships-Intellect-Spirituality, and Managing Your Emotions, just to name a few.
-D-A-S-H- Re-Entry provides recently released individuals with wrap-around services, which includes one-on-one coaching sessions, support groups and access to our vast network of referral services. We understand that making it through imprisonment is just the beginning of the process. That’s why we work with individuals upon release to help them have a smooth re-entry back into our community.
