WORKING SMART
Working Smart is a soft-skills curriculum designed to enhance employee activity in both the workplace and with life skills. Sixteen lessons of training throughout five modules includes: Self Awareness, Self-Management, Work Ethics, Communication Skills, and Problem-Solving Skills. This training prepares job seekers for employment and readily equips individuals currently in the workforce seeking new or greater opportunities. Those who successfully complete all training will receive a Working Smart Certificate. This curriculum is being presented by Life Connections partner agency The Longstreet Company.
Employment Readiness training provided by The Longstreet Company also includes subjects such as:

PERCEPTUAL CONTROL THEORY
Over the course of 20 hours, individuals will learn the basis and application of Perceptual Control Theory, a brain-based science. PCT is a cognitive behavioral theory approach to assist in understanding human behavior and how to manage ourselves in stressful situations. This approach respects individuals’ values and ethics and incorporates them into perspective and how we see the rest of the world. Upon finishing all training successfully, each participant will receive a certificate for PCT from the International Association of Applied Control Theory.
CERTIFIED PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST TRAINING
Peer Support Specialists are individuals living in recovery with mental illness, substance use disorder, or those who are Justice-involved. They provide support to others whom can benefit from their lived experiences. The North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist Program provides acknowledgment that the peer has met a set of requirements necessary to provide support to individuals with mental health or substance use disorder. These individuals learn how to be effective in all relationships and a system to positively impact the lives of individuals experiencing the challenges of their lived experiences. After successful completion of the 50 hour training, individuals will receive a state certificate as a CPSS.
