Repairing Harm and Rebuilding Trust

Restorative Justice / Restitution

When a young person makes a mistake, the impact is often felt by more than just themselves. Families, schools, and communities can all be affected. Restorative justice is a proven approach that focuses on repairing harm, restoring relationships, and helping youth take accountability in a meaningful way, without being defined by their mistakes.

Unlike traditional punishment, restorative justice gives youth the opportunity to understand the impact of their actions, make things right with the people they’ve harmed, and leave the process stronger, not stigmatized.

How the Restorative Justice / Restitution Program Works

Our program brings together the youth, the harmed party, and community members in a safe, supportive setting. With the guidance of a trained facilitator, participants:

Discuss the offense and how it affected those involved

Ask questions and share perspectives in an open dialogue

Work together to create a plan of action that allows the youth to take responsibility

Establish clear steps for making amends and moving forward. This may include a Restitution Plan in which the harmed party is compensated for a loss.

Successful completion of the program can prevent the youth from receiving a formal court record, giving them the chance to grow from their experience without carrying it into the future.

Why Restorative Justice / Restitution Matters

By focusing on accountability and healing, restorative justice helps youth learn from their mistakes while strengthening family and community bonds. Instead of creating a cycle of punishment, this program offers a path toward understanding, personal growth, and reconciliation.
