Workforce Development Programs

At Life Connections, we believe that employment is more than just a paycheck, it’s a pathway to independence, confidence, and community stability. Our Workforce Development programs give individuals the skills they need to succeed in the workplace while also strengthening essential life skills.

Through partnerships with organizations like The Longstreet Company, we provide evidence-based training that helps participants prepare for meaningful employment and greater opportunities.

Working Smart: Soft Skills for Success

The Working Smart curriculum includes 16 lessons across five modules:

Self-Awareness

Self-Management

Work Ethics

Communication Skills

Problem-Solving Skills

This training equips both job seekers and current employees with the tools they need to thrive in today’s workplace. Upon completion, participants receive a Working Smart Certificate recognized by employers.

Additional topics covered through Employment Readiness training include:

• Communication and conflict resolution
• Interview preparation
• Resume writing and development

Perceptual Control Theory (PCT) Training

Over 20 hours of training, participants learn the foundations of Perceptual Control Theory, a brain-based science and cognitive behavioral approach. This program helps individuals understand human behavior, manage stress, and align personal values with decision-making. Graduates receive a certificate from the International Association of Applied Control Theory.

Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) Training

Peer Support Specialists are individuals with lived experience in recovery from mental illness, substance use disorder, or justice involvement. This program trains participants to use their experiences to support others facing similar challenges.

After completing 50 hours of training, graduates receive certification from the North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist Program, opening doors to impactful roles within mental health and community services.
